The Connectivity for Refugees initiative is advancing connectivity access and digital skills training to meet the needs of forcibly displaced & host communities

Country Context

Currently, there are around 56,000 forcibly displaced persons in Angola spread over provinces such as Luanda and Lunda Norte. These refugees represent a multitude of countries such as the DRC, Rwanda, Mauritania and others.

Connectivity & Access

Angola has strong connectivity infrastructure, with 3G and 4G networks covering more than 75% percent of the population, and 5G available in select areas.

However, refugees continue to face disproportionate barriers to accessing connectivity and fully participating online including residing in remote areas where network coverage remains limited.

Connectivity in Lovua Camp

CfR supported the provision of connectivity across Lovua camp, addressing the immediate connectivity needs of refugees in the region due to limited network coverage.

Connected Community Centres

CfR supported the establishment of two connected community centres in Luanda and Lovua camp. Managed by local partners, these centres promote learning and digital skills development with the potential to reach up to 50,000 people.
